For my first blog, I thought I would showcase the process of creating a print from start to finish.
This is the original painting for my Lily print. Lily was our beautiful Abyssinian Cross, who sadly passed away earlier this year at the fine old age of 16. These pictures show my original paintings of Lily translated onto a large sheet of Lino. Lino cutting is a long but satisfying process, which always produces interesting results.
The lino, drawn and cut out.
Starting to ink up the print. The inking process gives the first indication of how the Lino cut will translate onto paper.
Nearly finished inking up.
This is the first black and white print. I find that often Lino printing creates an added dimension to the image when translated from a painting or drawing and adds a textured look that brings the image to life.
The black and white print provides a base on which to paint...
Or collage.
The Lily print was featured in the 2nd edition of The Printmakers cat book published by Mascot Media and available at any bookshop. It also features a print of 'Worried', my Siamese Abyssinian Cross, relaxing in the conservatory.
I hope you have enjoyed reading about the printing process. For any questions or queries please don't hesitate to contact me via the 'stay in touch' tab. On the 'gallery' tab you will also be able to view other versions of the 'Lily print', or any of my other designs including paintings, prints, and collages, new and old.
